prayer focus week

This week has been 'Prayer Focus Week' in school. The week kicked off with each class visiting a church in the local area, and culminated this morning with the sharing of class prayers written throughout the week. Children also visited the various prayer spaces that have been created. I'm sure you've been following updates via the private class Twitter feeds, but there are a few extra photos above for you to have a look at.

violin concert

We are extremely proud of our music-making at Ferncumbe, and were reminded of that fact during a sunny afternoon a couple of weeks ago, in the school hall.  Ms. Barnett led our violinists in an impressive concert, especially considering that all of Year 2 have been learning violin for less than a year! It was an absolute pleasure to watch and listen to the range and abilities of the children, who were all extremely professional and a credit to themselves and the school. Many thanks for the tremendous support from friends and family, the children really welcomed such an appreciative audience.

Do watch out for letters coming out soon regarding the uptake of violin lessons next year. Please enquire at the school office with any questions.

Investigating an evacuee's suitcase.

Investigating an evacuee's suitcase.

On Wednesday children in Years 5 and 6 became evacuees for the day and experienced life as a child during WW2. They took part in a variety of enriching activities which enabled them to further their understanding of the WW2 theme.

school funding letter

Please do take the time to read the letter emailed to you this week regarding how the future of school funding will directly affect primary schools in the area.

charity cake sale

School Council are planning to hold a fundraising cake sale on Friday 30th June 2017. We ask that children bring in no more than £1 to spend on cakes - each cake will cost 25p. We request that cakes are brought into school on the morning of the 30th - many thanks in advance for your generous 'cake' donations. Please do label any containers you wish to be returned!

PE Kit

Several children are regularly forgetting their school PE kit. Please do support your child by reminding them to bring in their kit on the days it is needed (alternatively they are able to leave it in school for the week and bring it home on a Friday for a wash). PE days are noted on the class newsletter on the website.

We're also requesting that any good quality items of PE kit that have been grown out of by your child and no longer needed, including pumps, be sent into school. Our spare kits get an awful lot of use!

text and email messaging

We are now using a new system for text and email to parents from the school office. We sent a test message out yesterday (Thursday). Please contact Claire or Tamson in the office if you didn't receive it.

With best wishes for a lovely weekend,
