Ferncumbe Friday

Friday 15th July 2022

It has been an absolute pleasure to welcome so many of you into school in recent weeks, whether it be for family picnics, Sports Day, open classrooms, concerts, Fun Day or to join your child during lessons to share in their learning. May I take the opportunity of thanking you all for your continued support which has been fed back in so many ways during recent weeks, and also for the positive messages we have received on return of the report slips.

the FRIENDS of ferncumbe ‘fun day’

Thank you to our incredible PTA, The Friends of Ferncumbe, for organising a wonderful day of fun activities for the children - without exception they all had the most fantastic day. Their best day ever is how lots of pupils chose to describe it! A special mention to parents who volunteered to help out on the day and also those who contributed in the lead up, behind the scenes. Your time, commitment and enthusiasm is much appreciated by us all.

Any last minute donations would still be gratefully received. Funds raised are going towards the development of a well-being area in our school courtyard, which Mrs Reid is coordinating,

Commonwealth sports day for wroxall and lowsonford!

On Wednesday, Wroxall and Lowsonford classes travelled to the Kingsley School playing fields to take part in a community sports day, along with 2 other schools. The pupils moved around 5 different activities: volleyball, bowls, squash, hockey and throwing. It gave them a chance to learn about different sports and have lots of fun in the process. We were very proud as staff, of how impeccably behaved the children were and how well they coped in the heat, with a real can-do attitude! Well done everyone.

design and technology in Honiley class

This term in Year 2, we've been having lots of fun designing our own Mexican masks. This week we began to make them! We had to cover the balloons with modroc, and when they are dry, we will paint and decorate them! Do keep your eyes peeled on Twitter to see what they look like when they're finished.

Lowsonford Class

On Friday 1st July, Lowsonford class organised a cake sale and a sponsored run. During the run, which was off-site, they all participated with such enthusiasm and all the staff were so impressed with how they persevered and showed such determination to keep going. They then return to school and held a cake sale for the rest of the school. This was part of our PHSE jigsaw learning. They class were understanding the importance of supporting the community. The charities they chose to raise money for were Versus Arthritis and Cancer Research UK. In total they raised £985.81. This will be split between both charities. Well done Lowsonford!

Haseley class

Year 1 had a fantastic time at Warwick Castle. We got to learn so many new things, hold a real-life sword and meet William Shakespeare. We had so much fun and it definitely was a highlight of our year together.

Warwickshire County Council is hosting another special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) webinar on Tuesday 19 July on the topic of Speech and Language Provision.

There can be many reasons why a young person may have a Speech, Language and Communication Need (SLCN). It may be due to physical difficulties such as a cleft palate or a hearing impairment, or it could be linked to other developmental conditions such as Autism. In some cases, there is no obvious cause.

Whatever the reason for a SLCN, it’s important that children and young people receive timely support to improve their overall development and educational outcomes. This webinar will provide parents and carers with a better understanding of the different levels of speech and language therapy support and how to access this for their child. It will also be an opportunity to share feedback on the current provision to help inform and improve future support across Warwickshire.

The webinar takes place on Tuesday 19 July, 1pm - 2pm and you can register to attend at: https://bit.ly/SpeechLanguageProvision

With the end of term quickly approaching, I know that all staff will join me in wishing the whole Ferncumbe community a happy summer break - we look forward to welcoming pupils back to school on Tuesday 6th September.

Very best wishes for a lovely weekend. Do please take care during the forecast heatwave.
