Children’s Mental Health Week
‘let’s connect’
Our focus week on children's mental health has seen children exploring how we can promote good mental health through the connections we make with others. From invisible strings that bind us together to friendship bingo, we have explored how we relate to other people and how friendship and company makes us feel good.
Today we get to 'dress to express', with our grown-ups invited into school at 2pm, to find out more information on promoting good mental health.
This week in Year 1 and in Miss Forbes’ lunch time club, we looked at the book ‘The Invisible String’ and thought about all of our invisible connections. These strings help us stay connected to pets, family, people who have died, friends, people we have only met once, and more. HATTON CLASS
In Hatton Class this week we have enjoyed our activities linked to Children’s Mental Health Week. We have thought of the ways that we are connected with people at home and at school. We shared the story ‘The Invisible String’ and drew pictures of the strings that connect us to our special people. We also shared some other stories to help us to think about how we manage our emotions. These stories inspired us to paint what different feelings can look like. At the end of the week we came to school in our own clothes and we certainly expressed ourselves in our wonderful outfit choices.
Rowington Class
This week, Rowington Class visited the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford to experience their Life in Ancient Greece workshop. We saw statues of important Greek figures and were able to handle original ancient Greek artefacts. It was a great experience and a fun trip out!

What a busy couple of weeks we’ve had in Year 2! We have continued to look at how recycling plastic can help our environment. Last week we decided to write letters to the Mayor of Warwick to ask him if we could have more recycling bins in Warwick town centre. Miss Constable was so impressed with our writing! Fingers crossed we hear from him soon.

We were INCREDIBLY proud of all the pupils last Thursday, as they performed their adaptation of Twelfth Night for a class assembly. They worked so hard to learn lines, make suggestions and really put their stamp on it - we hope the parents enjoyed it too!

In Year 4, we have been working hard on learning our times tables and our weekly M Factor sessions are highly anticipated! We enjoy the challenge of beating our previous scores in our timed sessions as well as receiving badges for each level of questions we complete. Everyone has made great progress, keep up the good work Shrewley Class!

Some very exciting news here in Year 1. Eleanor spent some of her Christmas break litter picking with her Daddy and sent in a photo to Blue Peter. This week, she was sent a green Eco badge and a congratulatory letter from the team at Blue Peter. Well done for your super achievement and care for the environment, Eleanor!
Another big celebration in Year 1 this week as this group of children got their first M Factor badges this week! We have been working very hard in the past couple of weeks to achieve this, and so many others are very close to getting their badge too. Well done, Haseley class!

Message from chair of governors
On behalf of the governors I would like to introduce you to our new Rector, Revd Ann Peachey, who has kindly joined the governing board here at Ferncumbe. Ann is the new rector of the benefice covering Hatton, Haseley, Rowington, Honiley and Lowsonford churches. She lives in the rectory in Hatton with her family and is really keen to support the Ferncumbe Family.
Ann has moved from Dorridge. She and her family went to Knowle Parish Church for 13 years during which Ann was ordained and curate. She spent the past 2 years as Associate Minister at St John’s Westwood, Coventry (next to Warwick University). She has a passion for families and young people, and her calling into ordained ministry came out of her passion to serve and energise this and the next generation to love and follow Jesus.
Ann is keen to build closer links with Hatton Church and Ferncumbe school, and to grow the children and families work/ministry at Hatton church in the community. She loves being in the countryside and part of the rural community here, and finding new ways to enjoy worshipping God outside in nature as well as in church.

Hi, I want to invite you to our family Pancake Party on Shrove Tuesday (in half term) at Hatton Park Village Hall. Please come along as a family for pancakes, races, activities and fun. I’d love to meet you and let you know of events your parish church has for you coming up over the next few months.

a book of portraits
Key Stage 2 children are fortunate to be involved in this exciting community theatre and music event. A Book of Portraits is a collaborative project led by Director/Designer Alexander Kaniewski and Composer Peter Bell. The work was devised with young professionals from the Birmingham area and supported by the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. They have been working with various organisations and groups within the village of Hatton since September 2022 in order to develop this project and provide an immersive performance event for the local community.
Children in Years 3 - 6 will have two workshops at school before Easter and then take part during the afternoon of Friday 21st April (not the evening performance). If you are a parent of KS2 children and can volunteer to support us during the afternoon school event (which will involve a walk from school to the forest, to church and then back to school) please contact Tamson in the school office by Friday 17th February.
