Ferncumbe Friday

friday 1st april 2022

welcome to our new school caretaker

We are delighted that David Hunt has been appointed as our new school Caretaker. David is local to the area, and took up the role at Ferncumbe this week - many of you may have already spotted him as he has met and greeted children each morning or on the playground gate as children have left in the afternoon. Thank you for already making him feel very welcome!

parents’ evenings and progress folders

We are so pleased to be able to return to the option of an in-person Parents’ Evening at the beginning of next term. You can choose to either attend an in-person meeting in the school hall on Tuesday 3rd May (3.30pm - 7.30pm) or sign up for a virtual appointment on Thursday 5th May (3.30 - 5.30pm). We have decided to offer a blended approach in response to feedback from parents. You will receive a message from the school office once you are able to sign up for a time.

If you have attended a recent SEND review meeting, or have one scheduled for May, then you do not need to sign up for an extra appointment.

Progress Books containing assessments from the end of this term will be sent home on Friday 29th April, with the exception of Year 6 (whose may come earlier). We ask that these folders are returned to school when you visit for your appointment.

easter service at Forest School

Lowsonford Class are leading our Easter Service in the Forest on Tuesday 5th April. The children in Year 6 will be preparing ‘Stations of the Cross’ from natural materials and each class will visit the stations to hear more about them. Reception and Key Stage 1 will visit each of the stations at about 1.30pm and Key Stage 2 will visit at about 2.15pm. There will be a short service at approximately 2pm led by members of Ferncumbe’s Worship group, when the whole school will come together.

Please do feel free to join us.

Super Singing!

Yesterday, Year 4 went to Barford to sing alongside children from Barford and Clinton schools. We had a great afternoon singing some of our favourite songs that we have practised in our weekly sessions with our animateur from Warwickshire Sings. We also learnt a number of new songs and it was lovely to hear the super sound of three classes singing in harmony!

Year 4 will be taking part in a Warwickshire Sings celebration concert in the summer term, which we look forward to inviting parents to attend.

Lowsonford Class

Year 6 have really enjoyed their Enrichment sessions taking part in Forest School activities this half term. They have learnt new skills and been involved in lots of team building activities.

thank you!

Thank you for supporting 'Our Little Garden' and the chickens. We have been selling fresh eggs and flowers on the playground and so far we have raised £141.00! All funds raised go back into our garden and help support our chickens. So far, we have been able to buy new seed trays and compost, seeds, a cover for our chicken pen and corn for the chickens.

We are so grateful for your generosity and support and we hope to carry on.

Tiggy, Maia & Lexi in Shrewley Class

Hatton class

Hatton Class have thoroughly enjoyed exploring traditional tales this half term. They have all become expert storytellers and have really enjoyed making pancakes, porridge and gingerbread in response to the stories.

Crazy Cricket!

Year 3 had a super time with Edgbaston Cricket this week. We learnt some great skills and can’t wait to use them in the future.

more crazy cricket!

Year 1 also had a super time with the Edgbaston Cricket team this week. They showed off their super listening skills and learnt some cool cricket tips too.

One Plastic bag

Honiley Class have been reading the text ‘One Plastic Bag’ in their Literacy lessons. The children were completely inspired by the women in the story who made purses out of plastic bags and decided to recycle plastic bags in a different way! We decided to make skipping ropes! Lots lots of perseverance and teamwork were needed to make them but it was so much fun! We have even written instructions on how to make them! Come and speak to Honiley Class if you fancy making one too.

Miss Constable

With very best wishes for a lovely weekend, and Easter break to follow at the end of next week.
