Ferncumbe Friday

friday 18th March 2022

upcoming events

It has been really lovely welcoming so many of you into school over the last few weeks, when you have visited to look at your child’s books. Please do take a look at the interactive calendar at the bottom of the home page of the school website which details a host of upcoming school events for the remainder of this term and beyond… https://www.ferncumbefamily.cuk/

You are warmly invited to come and hear some of the songs the children have been working on during their Singtastic sessions with Kieron from Warwickshire Music. The performances will take place in the school hall on Tuesday 5th April 2022. Please come to the red door at the front of school.

Key Stage 2 - 9am

Reception and Key Stage 1 - 9.30am

A class full of botanists

Wroxall Class worked really hard dissecting a Daffodil during Science this week. The children carefully removed each part of the flower, labelling each part and learning about its purpose.  They linked their learning to the process of pollination and fertilisation. The children were able to explain how bees and insects can transfer pollen from one flower to another to being the process of pollination. The children showed a great understanding about the processes and asked some great questions.

Speed stacking county finals

Yesterday, 12 Year 4 pupils represented Ferncumbe and Central Warwickshire at the County Finals for Speed Stacking. In a highly competitive event, we came 5th overall out of 13 teams! We competed in 3 different events, 1 individual and 2 team relay events. Our times were then combined to give us an overall team score. All our pupils performed well under pressure and enjoyed their success in the afternoon’s events. Speed stacking was entirely new to us all before we participated in the competition for the first time last year, but given the children’s success I’m sure this won’t be the last you will hear of the sport! Well done again to all of the children and thank you to parent helpers for your support.

REPORT FROM GOVERNORS

On behalf of all of the existing Governors, I would like to welcome Jake Thompson as the new Parent Governor. Jake will be joining us for his first formal meeting next week. Jake has a daughter in Reception and has already thrown himself fully into school life with the Ferncumbe Family. He is keen to play a greater role supporting the Ferncumbe Family and representing parents on our governing body.

Jake has replaced our previous governor, Georgina McCarthy.  I would like to thank Georgina for her time and support to the governing board, during her role as a parent governor.

We are pleased to confirm that this term the governors have been able to carry out face to face monitoring. The vice chair, Sarah Asprey, and I attended school on different days to sit in and monitor a number of classes.  I also had the pleasure of meeting with, and talking to, children at the School Council meeting. Following on from visits, we report back to other governors and work with the leadership team on any objectives going forward. Both Sarah and I would like to thank all staff for their ongoing hard work and commitment to the school and to the children for their positive input to the monitoring process.

Donna Bothamley, Chair of Governors

With very best wishes for a lovely, sunny weekend!
