Ferncumbe Friday

Friday 27th May 2022

Goodbye Mr Kitney!

Tuesday was an emotional day for everyone as we said goodbye to Mr Kitney, Ferncumbe’s very own superhero! We gathered together to share memories with him, sing and hand over presents and cards. In typical Mr Kitney style there were lots of high fives as he said goodbye. We will miss him terribly, but he knows that he goes on to the next stage of his career with our love and very best wishes.

Mr Kitney has asked me to share the following message…

‘I would just like to say a huge thank you to the parents and carers for the tremendous amount of support, trust and patience during my time at this truly wonderful and most joyous place.

I feel incredibly blessed to have shared so many epic memories with all the children at Ferncumbe, past and present, you will always hold a special place in my heart. So here is my message to you... be brave, ooze with creativeness and confidence and never lose your brilliant imaginations! Can't wait to see you soon.’

Wroxall Class Computer Programmers

Wroxall class have become computer programmers this week, learning so much and having so much fun! We have been really lucky to be able to borrow some microbits from Warwick library to help us complete our computing unit of work. Using an online tool, Year 5 programmed a microbit to create a series of outputs when they pressed certain buttons. The children created different sequences of lights, messages and loops of repeating patterns using the software. They then downloaded this onto the microbit to see if their programming worked! An amazing job year 5, well done!

Rowington Class

Year 3 were lucky enough to be invited to take part in the Commonwealth Personal Best Festival at the beginning of this week. We travelled to Edmondscote Athletic Track to take part in a variety of challenges with the aim of improving our personal best score. We had a lovely morning and all worked super hard!

Fruit salads!

To end our Design Technology learning this half term, we made fruit salads with Mrs Bhogal. We used the safety tips we have learnt about, like tying our hair back and using a chopping board. We were really careful with the sharp knife and put it all in a bowl. We really enjoyed making them but we liked eating them even more!

Shrewley sewing

Year 4 have been busy learning cross stitch this week and following patterns to mark The Platinum Jubilee. The class chose from a variety of designs which include a border, crowns and text with the dates of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. The children have all enjoyed the opportunity to do something different to mark this special occasion and we are all looking forward to seeing the finished results of their hard work!

Free Creative Workshops and a Concert!

On Monday 30th May, Tuesday 31st May and Wednesday 1st June, there are a range of free workshops (From 9.30-12.30) that are open to the public at the Koco Community Centre in Coventry. Miss Forbes will be leading some steel pan workshops during Monday’s session so if anyone is interested trying their hand at a new skill, please do come along. All under 18s must be accompanied by an adult for the whole session, so why not make it a family affair and sign yourself up too!

On Saturday 4th June, there will be a concert at Bethel Church where Impact Steel Band will be performing alongside some acts from the workshops earlier in the week. Both the workshops and concert are free of charge. For more information, you can contact Impact on any of their social media pages and for more information and the registration link to book workshops, please go to https://coventry2021.co.uk/what-s-on/the-home-spun-festival/

A reminder that school is holding an INSET day on Monday 6th June. We look forward to welcoming children back to school on Tuesday 7th.

With very best wishes to you all for a happy, peaceful and sunny half-term break,

Tracey Webb, Head of School
