Ferncumbe Friday

Friday 1st December 2023

A final reminder that the Friends of Ferncumbe Christmas market is taking place tomorrow - Saturday 2nd December - at The Falcon at Hatton. The school Christmas choir will be performing at 10.30am with Santa arriving afterwards at 11am.

We also have a photographer, face painter and a variety of stalls. The pub will be open serving hot drinks. Please do come along and show your support.

Remember to wrap up warm and we recommend children wear wellies if they are likely to want to run around on the grass. A polite reminder that children remain the responsibility of their parent or guardian; whilst the pub garden is fenced, the site is not fully enclosed.

(Whilst some of the stalls may accept card / Paypal payment, we advise you to bring cash).

It’s nearly that time of year again, Ferncumbe Christmas Jumper Day! We will be inviting all children and staff to wear their Christmas jumper on the last Friday of term, Friday 22nd December. An online donation of £1 will be gratefully received from each child wearing a festive jumper or decorated top.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing all of the fabulous Christmas jumpers!

Goodbye Miss Hover

Today we said goodbye to one of our Learning Support Assistants, Miss Dannielle Hover, who is leaving Ferncumbe to move into a new role. Miss Hover has worked with a variety of year groups over her year with us and will be very much missed. We wish her every success in the future.

Go girls!!

A huge sporting success from our Year 5 and 6 football players. Over the past couple of months, they have taken part in a Girl’s Football League, playing against other schools in the local area, and what a great job they have done! Eight schools took part in the league and Ferncumbe came second overall. You must all be so proud of yourselves.

The girls played 3 matches during each event, displaying fantastic teamwork, support for each other and some brilliant skill. We have seen some fantastic goals being scored, strong defence and some marvellous saves from the goalies. You have made Ferncumbe proud and you all looked so fantastic in your special kits!

Well done to Mila, Amy, Tilly, Annabella, Tiggy, Lois, Zoe, Lily, Ellie, Sofia and Maia.

A special thank you to Mr Jones and Dave Bracher for supporting with coaching our girls and officiating at the events. It wouldn’t have happened without you!

hockey stars

A group of Year 5 and 6 children represented the school at a hockey festival on Wednesday 22nd November. They did a brilliant job in each of their games, using defence and attack tactics to play brilliantly as a team. Some excellent goals scored and great support for each other! They worked their way through to the final where they played a challenging team. It was close until the end when the other team scored but everyone tried hard and played some excellent hockey. Thank you to the parents who helped and supported the team.

Lowsonford Class

Last week, we had a Design and Technology day in year six. We had already designed playgrounds in pairs. Last Friday, we spent the day creating our playgrounds and evaluating our designs. I was SO impressed with the team work and discussions to make the playgrounds! Great work Lowsonford!

Mrs White

Wroxall Class

The pupils in Wroxall Class have worked SO hard this week, giving their all to their assessments and keeping brilliant focus throughout - we are very proud of them. On Wednesday, we spent the afternoon creating poster summaries of all that we’ve learnt about the Viking raid on Lindisfarne in 793AD. Mrs Grier was impressed by all the information they had gathered with Mrs Foss and their posters were great!

Mrs Grier

Rowington Class

This week, Year 3 had a very exciting workshop online run by the British Museum. We learnt even more facts about prehistory in Great Britain and took part in a super quiz. Did you know that the British Museum has over 8 million artefacts inside?

parent consultation evenings

Our next 'Parent Consultation Evenings' will be on Monday 15th and Wednesday 17th January. You will receive an email regarding how to sign up to slots for these meetings from the school office over the coming weeks. These meetings follow assessments carried out in December and are an opportunity to follow-up on progress made by your child/ren and any areas you may wish to discuss of a pastoral or academic nature.

Do look out for the feedback form regarding parent evenings which will be emailed home soon. We are looking to streamline the way we provide you with information on your child/ren’s outcomes from termly assessments, and are looking to provide the information without the need for a progress folder, which was introduced many years ago and the format of which has now run its course.

Message from our vicar Rev Ann Peachey

‘I’m looking forward to seeing you at some of the Christmas events coming up at school and Hatton Church in the next few weeks.

I wanted to invite you especially to come along to our Christingle service on Sunday 17th December at 3.30pm and to our Crib service on Christmas Eve at 3.30pm at Hatton Church. We will sing some of the new Christmas songs we’ve been singing at school. If you would like to help out - particularly at the Christingle service - that would be great too. You can contact me at revannpeachey@gmail.com

Details of all the services at our churches this Christmas are in the free copy of the Ferncumbe News which will be sent home with your child today.

Look forward to seeing you then.

God bless,

Rev Ann.’
