ferncumbe’s fantastic fundraising!

a letter received from warwick district foodbank team

Hi everyone at Ferncumbe Primary School,

Thank you so much for the Harvest donation last week.  We are so very grateful for your support as our stock levels had reduced considerably over the summer.

Please pass on our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed, we couldn't do what we do without your help - it's appreciated and makes a difference.

Kind regards

Ros Wood

Warwick District Foodbank Team

thank you to our top fundraisers!

We were overwhelmed with the amount of money raised to support our visit from Martha Harris to the Ferncumbe. The school has received a total of £698 after sharing some funds with new, young athletes, part of the work completed by Sports for Champions.

We wanted to share a special thank you to our top fundraisers, what an amazing amount to raise for the school. Thank you to Albie VG, Holly B, Elliot L, Dominic B , Alex C, Victor B, Oscar M, Toby B and Toby R! Well done to you all.

E-Safety Updates for Parents

Online Safety Workshop for Parents

We are excited to announce that there will be a FREE Online Safety workshop for parents, presented by Katherine Howard from Smoothwall, on Wednesday 29th November from 7.30-8.30pm.

We have invited Kat to talk to parents about how they can keep their children safe online. Kat has been working in, and with, schools for over 18 years to develop their understanding of Online Safety and support school leadership teams to implement and embed policies, procedures, training and committees. She is passionate about the importance of online safety in schools and the wider community and provides advice and support on a day-to-day basis.

During this workshop, Kat will give parents lots of practical hints, tips and activities to support your young people in this environment. She will also discuss how parents can keep their knowledge about this ever changing landscape current.

To get the Zoom link for this session, please fill in this form.

#ANTIBULLYINGWEEK

This week we have joined forces with schools across the country to MAKE A NOISE about bullying behaviour. On Monday, Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 participated in a creative workshop organised by the Anti Bullying Alliance. Too often, children are silent when they see bullying take place, silent about the hurt bullying causes, and silent when they hear bullying dismissed as ‘just banter’. It doesn't have to be this way and the workshop sought to encourage children not to be bystanders and to make a noise when they see evidence of bullying.

Within the Ferncumbe community, we encourage everyone to treat each other with dignity and respect at all times. This philosophy is enshrined in our school’s key values. We have an anti-bullying policy that outlines our commitment to keeping our pupils safe and allow them to flourish. Mrs Reid is our behaviour champion and one of her priorities is to ensure children have opportunities to have their voices heard about bullying. In response to their suggestions we have introduced a playground charter and communication board. This will help pupils navigate lunchtimes safely and learn to consider others whilst still having fun.

RUFUS

It was no surprise to see the enthusiastic welcome Rufus received during his first week at school. Thank you to everyone for the gifts and warm wishes. Rufus is already having a positive impact on the children and grown-ups and is in much demand. We will continue with his gentle introduction but as our newest member of Ferncumbe, he has already learnt so much including being trained to lie down by some of Year 6.

Miss Forbes has set him up with a Twitter page (@RufusTFS) and Mrs Reid has to get better at taking more photographs. His next milestone is to begin puppy training which has been kindly donated by our parent Andy O’Brien of the K9 Club.

HATTON CLASS

We had a super visit to Hatton to pick a pumpkin last week. We were picked up by Tristan the Tractor and had a bumpy journey to the pumpkin field where we chose our pumpkins from the last of this year’s crop. We then went to visit the animals before heading back to school. We are enormously grateful to Richard and his team for this exciting opportunity.

We made some delicious soup with one of our pumpkins and we even roasted the seeds. We gave the trimmings to the chickens - nothing was wasted.

Shrewley CLASs

Last Friday, Year 4 went to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford for an Egypt Detectives workshop. We were guided around the amazing Egyptian galleries and had to find a range of artefacts and learnt about their uses. Our favourite parts of the day included seeing real Egyptian mummies, the incredible shrine (pictured above) and handling genuine ancient artefacts thousands of years old!

We even had a sneak peak at the Roman galleries ahead of our new topic after Christmas too. A super day which brought all of our learning about this amazing ancient civilisation to life!

Rowington Class

Year 3 have been learning about forces and we ran an investigation to test the effects of friction. We used ramps covered with different materials and toy cars and measured the distance that each car travelled. We really enjoyed it! Well done, Rowington Class!
