Ferncumbe Friday

Friday 12th May 2023

Dates for the Diary!

friday 7th july 2023

We look forward to welcoming you to Sports Day on Friday 7th July 2023.

KS2 will hold their races in the morning and Reception/KS1 in the afternoon. Timings of the morning and afternoon races will be confirmed nearer the date, but do please note that there will not be an early finish for KS2 children after the picnic lunch. They will remain with their classes and under the supervision of their teachers.

Reception and KS1 children can be signed out early if their races finish before the end of the school day. Any KS2 siblings will of course be able to accompany siblings at that point too.

Children should come to school in their PE kit on the day.

Whole School family Picnic - friday 7th July 12pm

We would love all families to join us on the school field at lunchtime for a picnic at 12pm with their child/ren. Deli bags will be available for children who would normally have a school lunch. The office will be in touch next half term regarding the uptake of a school lunch on the day as we know that some parents prefer to provide their own picnic for their child.

open afternoon - Wednesday 12th july 2023

We will hold our Open Afternoon on Wednesday 12th July 2023 from 1.30 - 4pm. This is a chance for parents and carers to visit classrooms and look through child/ren’s books with them. On this occasion there will be the opportunity for an early finish if you wish to collect your child/ren following this event.

Year 6 parents please note that Mrs White will make alternative arrangements as Year 6 are away on their residential on this date.

LOWSONFORD CLASS

Year 6 children in Lowsonford Class completed their Key Stage 2 SATs today. Throughout the week they faced the series of assessments with maturity, focus, application and determination; we were so proud of them all and know that each of them gave their very best. Congratulations Year 6!

Many thanks to Mrs White who organised special, surprise treats this afternoon, and also to every member of staff in school who supported the children by keeping morale high and stress levels low!

HATTON CLASS

We had a super time in Hatton Class last Friday celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III. As well as wearing the colours of the Union Jack, we shared some super stories to help us to understand more about King Charles and the Coronation. We made crowns to wear, flags to wave and thought about what we would do if we were a King or Queen. We enjoyed our picnic lunch and during the afternoon we had a celebratory tea party with our friends. What a memorable occasion!

Ferncumbe Book Fair

We will be hosting a book fair from Hunt’s Independent Bookshop next week!

The book fair will be open for you and your child/ren to attend and purchase books in the school hall on Tuesday 16th and Thursday 18th May from 3.30-5pm. Payments can be made by cash or card. If you are unable to attend but your child would like to purchase a book, please send in cash in a named envelope during the week of 15th May and they will be able to purchase their chosen book(s).

We are also inviting you to purchase a book for the school library, contributing to our vision of providing quality texts for all children across the school. So this is a great opportunity to find your child’s new favourite read, as well as supporting the school in inspiring a love of reading.

Thank you in advance for your support,

Miss Reid

Haseley and Honiley Class

Haseley Class and Honiley Class had a super time celebrating the coronation on Friday. We made crowns with Miss Forbes and wore them with pride all day long. Miss Constable helped us to make lovely scones that we ate with jam and cream on the hill in the sun in the afternoon. Both Miss Forbes and Miss Constable were blown away with our manners, positive attitude and helpfulness throughout the day. Well done!

Miss Forbes and Miss Constable

Rowington Class

This week, we have been busy writing poems about the recent coronation of King Charles III and have been exploring the different senses that people would have encountered at the event in London. Excellent work Year 3 and some fantastic rhymes!

Report from Chair of Governors

We now have a couple of vacancies on the Ferncumbe Governing Board. Jake Thompson has stepped down as parent governor and Paul Wightman’s term will end in December 2023. Due to a change in personal circumstances, Paul now feels that it is the right time to hand over to someone else. I would like to thank both governors for the time and support that they have given to the board.

We are now looking for one parent governor and one governor who is not a parent to fill the two roles. In particular, we are looking for someone with experience in Health and Safety issues.

The role of parent governor is an elected role and Mrs Webb, our Head of School, has written to all parents today with details of the process and how to apply. If anyone has any questions about the role before formally applying, please do not hesitate to contact me.

We will be advertising the second position to the wider community and if any parents know of anyone who might be interested, please do ask them to get in touch.

a message from mrs lilley

What an amazing gift Hatton Class received this week! We would like to take the opportunity to thank whoever has contributed 20 brand new, wonderful puddle suits for our Forest School sessions. A fantastic, unexpected surprise. We really appreciate your generosity. Thank you so much.

With very best wishes for a lovely weekend,
