Head’s Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this newsletter finds you well and that you all enjoyed a lovely Easter break filled with sunshine. As we step into my favourite term of the year, it's lovely to see our pupils playing outside, basking in the warm sunshine, and crafting delightful daisy chains. There's something truly magical about witnessing the joy and innocence of childhood in these simple moments.

I'd like to take a moment to extend my heartfelt wishes to our Year 6 pupils as they prepare for their upcoming KS2 SATs next week. Mrs White has been absolutely brilliant in her dedication to preparing our pupils for these assessments. Her hard work and commitment have been truly commendable, and I'm certain that our Year 6s are well-equipped for the challenge ahead.

To our Year 6 pupils: remember that these tests are just one small part of your educational journey. We know that each and every one of you will do your very best, and that's all we can ask for. Your worth is not determined by a set of exam results, but by the wonderful individuals you are and the potential you hold. We are immensely proud of you, regardless of the outcome.

Parents, your support during this time is invaluable. A good night's sleep, a hearty breakfast, and words of encouragement can make all the difference. Let's rally behind our Year 6s and show them how much we believe in them.

As we navigate through this action-packed half term, I'm reminded of the incredible community we have here at our school. The way we come together to support one another, celebrate achievements, and overcome challenges is truly inspiring. It's this spirit of togetherness that makes our school such a special place.

So, as we embrace the busy weeks ahead, let's do so with enthusiasm and positivity. Here's to a productive, albeit short, half term.

Wishing you all the very best,

Sally Morris

New deluxe bug hotel on the way!

Ready to be filled!

Yet another amazing member of the Ferncumbe Family, Daryl Lilley, volunteered his services and materials this week, to create the frame for a large bug hotel in the corner of the field. We are hoping to grow a living roof on top as well. As part of our drive to increase biodiversity around school, we would love every child to bring in a contribution to the hotel if they would like to. This could be pine cones, sticks, loose bark, broken ‘crocks’ from the greenhouse, bamboo sticks (we can cut to size), corrugated cardboard, moss, or even small logs with holes drilled in for bee nests! There are lots more suggestions online and your gatherings could be part of a nice country walk. Thank you for your support!

Mrs Grier.

A Gentle Reminder…

As the weather becomes warmer, can we please remind all adults driving to school, not to idle your car whilst waiting for pick up. We want to keep pollution to a minimum in our village, and we are sure you will agree that our children’s developing lungs are more important than running our air conditioning, heating our cars, or charging our phones. Thank you!

Severn Trent workshops

Year 3

Year 3 took part in a Severn Trent workshop, where they were able to explore the water process, play games to understand why we need to value water and learn ways they can look after it.

Year 4

Year 4 really enjoyed their session with Severn Trent yesterday. On the ‘experibus’, we worked as scientists interpreting lab results to find the source of river pollution. We learnt how the pH of the water as well as the different invertebrates that live there can indicate the levels of pollution. We also enjoyed a range of different activities and games including detecting water leaks, fixing broken pipes, water themed connect 4 and snakes & ladders as well as racing to sort waste into toilets or bins! These activities refreshed our learning from earlier in the year when we took part in another Severn Trent workshop focussed on saving water. The workshop leaders were very impressed by our knowledge and enthusiasm, well done Shrewley Class!

Date for your diary!

Get your sports kit at the ready! Our date for Sports Day and Family Picnic is Friday 27th June 2025.

Hatton Church

It was wonderful to see many of you at our Easter events and services. I really enjoyed our school Easter Forest school service and also having the donkey procession from school to Hatton church on Palm Sunday.

This month we have our usual Breakfast church on Sunday 18th May at 10am - you’re all welcome to come along.

After half term we’re having the Alive Concerts that we had last year. The whole school will join in. They will be on Thursday 19th June 2pm and 6pm.

Put it in your diary.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

God bless
