Head’s Message
Dear Families and Friends of our School Community,
As we approach the end of this half term, I find myself reflecting on the wonderful experiences and achievements we've shared together. The sunny weather has been a delightful companion, transforming our school field into a dusty space reminiscent of my recent trip to Sierra Leone.
This week, I've had the pleasure of sharing videos and photographs from my African adventure with many of our classes. It's been a joy to see how these experiences align beautifully with our current Worship theme of Friendship, encouraging our pupils to think about their friends across the globe. The timing couldn't have been more perfect, especially for Hatton Class, who have been immersing themselves in the colourful world of Kenya through their study of 'Handa's Surprise'.
As we bask in the warmth of friendship and cultural exploration, I'm thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our school's journey. After much anticipation and tremendous community effort, we've received the final sign-off for our new playground! This achievement is a testament to the incredible work of the Friends of Ferncumbe (FoF), whose tireless fundraising efforts have turned this dream into a reality. We are all looking forward to it being ready for September.
As we celebrate this achievement, I'm filled with gratitude for each and every one of you who has played a part in this journey. Whether you've attended a fundraising event, made a donation, or simply cheered us on, your support has been invaluable. This playground will be more than just a space for play; it will be a symbol of what we can achieve when we come together as a community.
Looking ahead, I'm excited about the joy and laughter this new playground will bring to our pupils. It will be a space where friendships flourish, imaginations soar, and memories are made – a fitting tribute to the theme of friendship that has been at the heart of our learning this half term.
As we prepare to enjoy a well-deserved break, I want to thank you all for your continued support and enthusiasm. It's your engagement and partnership that make our school such a special place.
Wishing you all a wonderful half-term break filled with sunshine, laughter, and perhaps even a few adventures of your own!

athletics at aylesford
On Wednesday, a number of children from Years 3 & 4 represented the school at the annual Central Warwick athletics competition hosted by Aylesford school. Children competed in a variety of events including 50m sprint, relays, javelin and long jump. The children have all worked hard over the past few weeks to prepare for their events and showed great sportsmanship in their encouragement and support of each other. There was a great team spirit and lots of super performances! We are awaiting the official results to confirm how many of our athletes have qualified to represent the Warwick area at the Central Warwickshire Championship Finals but all children who competed should be proud of how well they represented Ferncumbe. Thank you also to the parent volunteers who assisted at the event, your support was much appreciated.

Shrewley Sewing
The Year 4 sewing enrichment group have been working hard this half term to design and create their own toy characters. The group have all improved their sewing skills and very much enjoyed completing their projects. Thank you to Mrs Russell and Mrs Smith who have run the enrichment group. I know the next group of Year 4s are keen to get going on their projects after half term!

Cheerleading
On Monday, Year 4 cheerleading club treated the rest of the school to a performance to showcase their skills. The lunchtime club has been meeting once a week and the children have loved being able to learn new skills and develop new routines together. The routines they performed had been entirely created by the group themselves and they showed off great skill and teamwork! Thank you to Mrs Dean who has been running the club, it has been incredibly popular and the children loved having the opportunity to perform to the school and inspire others.

Eco-Schools Day!
Wroxall Class continue to be the most amazing and enthusiastic Eco-Warriors for the school. Last week, they collected a mountain of natural materials for the Bug Hotel in preparation for today. We began with a LYFTA lesson all about the Dead Sea, which generated much discussion. After this, we played a game carrying water to and fro in teams, to see which team could transfer the most water, with NO waste! We used the water on the new hedge afterwards! After break, we set to building the Bug Hotel - thank you so, so much for the amazing donations, which have made it so much better. Litter picking, hedge watering and gardening were also going on during this time. At the point of writing, the class are enjoying VERY well deserved smores in the forest. Well done and thank you Wroxall Class!
Buzz!
Buzz, our resident tortoise, has been well supported by children from across the school recently! He has been pampered; being well fed, having a wash and enjoying a walk in the sunshine!
Microscopy at Ferncumbe!
We have been able to hire a suite of 8 microscopes from the Royal Microscopical Society, for the summer term. This means that lots of children will be able to experience using a real microscope! Year 5 had the first go. They collected samples from around the school and we studied all kinds of things, from feathers, soil and flies, to bees, May bugs and Mrs Jones’ hair! We also played a match up game to see if we could identify everyday objects up close.
