Ferncumbe Friday

Friday 18th July 2025

Message From the Chair of GOvernors

As we draw towards the end of another academic year, I would like to wish all staff, families and pupils a happy summer break and thank you all for your contributions this year.

Thank you to the parents for taking the time to fill in our recent questionnaire. We will be reviewing the results in our September meeting and considering what changes, if any, we might need to implement.

The Governing Body are also extremely proud of the academic results that the children have achieved this year. The results should continue to place The Ferncumbe as one of the Top 10 schools in Warwickshire following last year’s success where we were the 5th best school in the Local Authority.

I would like to thank all of the staff at Ferncumbe for their ongoing hard work.  I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you that from September we have agreed for Miss Morris to trial flexible working hours. Miss Morris will continue to be supported by Mr Byrom who will be available when Miss Morris is not in school. Miss Morris remains the Head Teacher of school with overall responsibility and Mr Byrom continues as Assistant Head. Please do continue to raise any queries through the office so that they can be directed appropriately to either the class teacher, Mr Byrom or Miss Morris.

Finally, I would like to thank the Friends of Ferncumbe committee and all helpers for their amazing fund raising events again this year. The school and children really do benefit from this additional financial support.

For me, this is the end of an era as my youngest daughter, Holly, heads off to high school. I will, however, be remaining as a governor of the school and look forward to seeing the new families join in September.

Heads Message

As we reach the end of another wonderful academic year, my heart is absolutely bursting with pride and gratitude for everything our incredible school community has achieved together. There is truly so much to celebrate, and I simply cannot wait to share some of the highlights with you all.

This year has brought us some exciting new adventures alongside our cherished traditions. One of the most significant additions to our school calendar was the introduction of our very first residential trip for Year 4 pupils. What an absolute triumph this turned out to be! Watching our children step outside their comfort zones, build new friendships, and create memories that will last a lifetime was nothing short of magical. The confidence and independence they gained during this experience has been remarkable to witness, and I know it will serve them well as they continue their journey with us.

I must also take a moment to sing the praises of our fantastic new office team, who have truly gone above and beyond this year. Their dedication, warmth, and willingness to help and support you all with genuine smiles on their faces has made such a difference to our daily school life. They have embraced our school family with open arms, and we are so fortunate to have them.

Of course, none of our achievements would be possible without the extraordinary generosity and commitment of our Friends of Ferncumbe. The phenomenal amount of money they have raised for our playground project, along with countless other initiatives, has been absolutely outstanding. Their tireless efforts and unwavering support continue to enhance the experiences we can offer our pupils, and we simply cannot thank them enough.

Speaking of celebrations, our inaugural Colour Run was an absolute sensation! The joy, laughter, and sheer excitement on everyone's faces as we all came together for this vibrant, fun-filled event was truly something special. It perfectly captured the spirit of our school community – inclusive, joyful, and united in creating wonderful memories together.

As I reflect on this year, I am reminded once again that Ferncumbe continues to be such a very special place. We are privileged to nurture and grow these remarkable young people, preparing them with confidence and kindness for the next exciting step in their journey toward adulthood.

Thank you, each and every one of you, for the unique and valuable contribution you make to ensure this magic is possible. Together, we truly are something extraordinary. I hope you all have a wonderful summer!

🎉👰🤵Congratulations 👰🤵🎉

Some exciting news as Miss Constable is getting married over the Summer Holidays and will return in September as Mrs Montgomery. On behalf of all the Ferncumbe Family, we wish her and Mr Montgomery the very best for their wedding day and hope they have a lifetime of happiness together as Husband and Wife!

Friends of Ferncumbe

A huge thank you to our wonderful Friends of Ferncumbe who worked tirelessly to organise our spectacular 🌈Colour Run 🌈. Their dedication and hard work truly shone through, creating an event that will be remembered for years to come (as people are still washing paint off now!). It was such a joy to see our entire school community come together in a rainbow of colours!

But the thanks don't stop there - every single person who participated, raised money, helped with the organising, or simply came along to make the day so wonderfully colourful deserves our heartfelt appreciation. The atmosphere was electric and the smiles on everyone's faces were priceless - even Miss Morris after she was gunged!

I'm absolutely thrilled to share that the event raised an incredible £3198.66! This amazing achievement is testament to the generosity and community spirit that makes our school so special. What a wonderful way to support our pupils and their learning as well as the One World Link.

Pond Dipping Science Winners!

Last Monday, some of the Science Week winners of 2024, joined Mrs Grier and Katie Goodrem from Campion School for a pond dipping session in their beautiful wildlife area. Before the day became too hot, we were able to settle by the pond edge and see what we could find with our nets, identification charts and observation trays. The variety of wildlife was incredible and the children were so enthusiastic and keen to learn all about the wildlife (and in some cases, show off their own great knowledge!). What a wonderful treat! Thank you to the parents who came along to support.

Mrs Grier.

🏅 Tremendous Trampolining 🏅

On Saturday, Jensen represented the West Midlands in the trampoline Inter Regional Club Competition held at the Utilita Arena. He received silver and placed second out of 17 competitors in his category from all over the United Kingdom! We are really pleased of what he has achieved! Please look at one of his routines below.

🏏 Cricket Superstar 🏏

A huge congratulations to Annabella who has been selected as part of the Warwickshire Under 11 Cricket Squad! An amazing achievement and we are very proud of you!

Year 2 Mexican Day

What a wonderful celebration we had in Year 2 this week! Their Mexican day was truly a fiesta of colour and fun that brought such joy to our school. The children looked fantastic and were absolutely delighted as they got hands-on making their own delicious fajitas - you should have seen their faces light up with pride as they created their culinary masterpieces!

The creativity didn't stop there - they crafted beautiful sombreros and made traditional papel picado, filling the classroom with vibrant decorations!

Year 3 Greek day

The children travelled back in time to Ancient Greece for a fun-filled, hands-on learning experience! Dressed as their favourite Greek gods and goddesses, they enjoyed a brilliant day packed with creative activities. They crafted their own Greek armour, painted stunning interpretations of the Parthenon, made fresh Greek salads and tried a variety of traditional Ancient Greek foods. It was a wonderful way to bring history to life!

A Message FRom Rev Ann

It was wonderful to see Year 6 and their families in church for the Leavers’ Service. Congratulation to them and Mrs White for an amazing year. We also wish them well and send them with our prayers as they start their secondary schools in September.

Well done to everyone at the Ferncumbe family on a great year. It has been packed hasn’t it!

Over the summer we have Breakfast Church this Sunday, 20th July and Sunday 17th August at 10am at Hatton Church. We have the Pet Service at St Mary’s Haseley on 10th August at 6pm. All are welcome to come along.

Look out for Rev Matt our new curate - he lives on Hatton Park will be out and about. He’d love you to say hello.

In the Autumn we’re going to run a group for Year 6 and 7 upwards who’d like to chat about faith. Maybe you would like to explore baptism or confirmation, or have questions. We’d love you to come along. If you’re interested get in touch with me and I can keep you posted.

I pray you all have a restful and joyful summer and look forward to hearing about it when we see each other next.

God bless

Ann
